Abstract

The following study gives a detailed account of four trombone works to be performed for a Master's level recital. The selected works, all by American-born composers, reflect a variety of compositional styles. The study includes biographies of each composer and a detailed analysis for each work. I used historical and descriptive research to become well acquainted with each piece. I also interviewed composers when possible. A chapter is dedicated to each work, with a section for a biography and an analysis. The results of this study will serve as a document that can aid the preparation for presenting these works in public performance. The works were presented in recital on April 23, 2012. The document concludes with the recital program.
