Abstract

Generation Why explores the similarities between science and religion through an investigation of materials and iconographic traditions. It combines familiar iconography from both science and religion to investigate shared social agendas in American culture. Research into artists who share similar visual and conceptual sensibilities, yet who are from a previous generation, establish a context which lends insight to Generation Why. Decisions, from material choices and scale, to orientation and lighting, were executed to emphasize a homogenous culture forged by combining pharmaceutical and religious symbols.
